Overview How many of our state’s threatened and endangered species can you name? 483: A Search for Illinois’ Endangered Species seeks to familiarize us with our state’s most vulnerable inhabitants—the 483 plants and animals currently listed as Illinois’ threatened or endangered species. In 2004, photographer Carol Freeman undertook a remarkable project: to visually document images of all 483 species. The first 135 plants and animals that she has recorded are presented here. Her work continues today. This exhibition reminds all Illinois citizens of the abundant life outside their front doors, connects them to the grander themes of conservation and stewardship, and galvanizes them to act to save the plants and animals of our state.
In the works is the creation of a museum exhibit of Carol’s photography of Illinois’ most endangered species. We are looking for corporate sponsors for this amazing, life changing exhibit. Please contact Carol for more information.
